Trazyn

Archaeovist of Solemnace

Trazyn the Infinite is perhaps the most unusual figure among the awakening Necrons, an Overlord whose obsessions and eccentricities set him apart from the cold, calculating warriors that dominate the leadership of the Necron dynasties. Where other Necron lords dedicate themselves to the reconquest of their ancient territories or the systematic destruction of the lesser races that have colonized the galaxy during the Great Sleep, Trazyn pursues a far more idiosyncratic objective: the collection and preservation of every artifact, specimen, and moment of historical significance that the galaxy has ever produced. His galleries beneath the surface of the tomb world of Solemnace represent the single most comprehensive repository of galactic history in existence, a collection so vast and varied that it defies cataloguing — spanning artifacts from civilizations that predate the War in Heaven, biological specimens from species that have been extinct for millions of years, and frozen tableaux depicting pivotal moments in the history of a dozen different civilizations, each preserved in perfect stasis for Trazyn's eternal contemplation.
What makes Trazyn truly remarkable — and truly dangerous — is the lengths to which he will go to acquire new pieces for his collection. He thinks nothing of launching military campaigns against entire worlds to secure a single artifact, of manipulating galactic events to create situations where desired specimens become vulnerable to acquisition, or of forming temporary alliances with species that any other Necron lord would consider beneath contempt. His methods of collection range from outright theft to elaborate deceptions, from military conquest to diplomatic negotiation conducted with a charm and wit that is deeply unsettling coming from a being of living metal whose species is synonymous with pitiless, silent destruction. Trazyn has stolen relics from the Empire's most sacred vaults, captured living specimens from the most dangerous species in the galaxy, and acquired technologies from civilizations that most galactic scholars do not even believe existed — and he has done all of this not for strategic advantage or military power but for the simple, pure satisfaction of adding another treasure to his ever-growing collection.
The Prismatic Galleries of Solemnace are legendary among those few individuals who are aware of their existence — which is to say, among a very select group of Inquisitors, Crypteks, and other beings whose interests align with or intersect with Trazyn's own. The galleries extend for hundreds of kilometers beneath the surface of Solemnace, a labyrinthine complex of vaulted halls and sealed chambers, each dedicated to a different aspect of galactic history. One gallery contains nothing but weapons — every significant weapon ever created by every civilization in the galaxy, from the crude stone tools of pre-technological humanity to the star-killing devices of the Old Ones. Another houses biological specimens in stasis fields, perfectly preserved examples of species that have been extinct for millions of years, arranged in taxonomic order by a cataloguing system of Trazyn's own devising. A third gallery is devoted to historical tableaux — frozen moments in time, complete with living participants suspended in temporal stasis, depicting pivotal events from across the ages.
The existence of Trazyn raises profound questions about the nature of Necrons consciousness and the effects of the biotransference on individual personality. While most Necron lords emerged from the biotransference with their emotional range severely diminished — their passions and interests reduced to the martial virtues of command, strategy, and conquest — Trazyn retained something that borders on genuine creativity: a love of beauty, an appreciation for craftsmanship, and an intellectual curiosity that drives him to seek out the new and the extraordinary with an enthusiasm that is almost childlike in its intensity. Whether this represents a quirk of his particular biotransference protocol, a form of neural degradation that manifests as obsessive behavior, or evidence that the Necrontyr were capable of a wider range of personalities than their current martial reputation suggests, is a question that fascinates the few Imperial scholars who have studied Trazyn's behavior from a safe distance.
His interactions with other Necron lords are characterized by a combination of mutual exasperation and grudging respect. Trazyn's fellow Overlords regard him as an eccentric at best and a liability at worst, his unpredictable behavior and his willingness to prioritize his collection over the interests of the broader Necron civilization making him a frustrating and unreliable ally. Yet they cannot deny the value of his collection, which contains technological artifacts and historical records that could be of immense strategic importance if they were ever made available to the Necron war effort. Trazyn, for his part, regards his fellow Overlords with a mixture of amusement and mild contempt, viewing their martial obsessions as a tragic failure of imagination and their territorial ambitions as petty squabbling over resources that will eventually return to Necron control regardless of who fights whom in the meantime. He has been known to trade items from his collection in exchange for favors, access, or particularly desirable specimens, making him a valuable if unpredictable political player in the complex web of inter-dynastic relations.
The role that Trazyn has played in recent galactic events demonstrates both his influence and his fundamental unpredictability. During the Fall of Cadia, when the forces of Chaos threatened to breach the Cadian Gate and flood the galaxy with the power of the Warp, Trazyn intervened in the battle — not out of any concern for the Empire or the galaxy at large, but because the destruction of Cadia would have destroyed irreplaceable historical artifacts that he had not yet had the opportunity to add to his collection. His intervention, which involved the deployment of preserved warriors from his galleries as combat forces, helped tip the balance at a critical moment, though the world ultimately fell regardless. This incident perfectly encapsulates Trazyn's nature: a being of immense power and capability whose motivations are so idiosyncratic that neither allies nor enemies can ever be certain what he will do next, making him perhaps the most dangerous wild card in galactic politics.

Famous Quotes

Every artifact tells a story. Every specimen is a chapter. My galleries are the greatest history of the galaxy ever assembled, and they are far from complete.
Trazyn the Infinite
I do not steal. I preserve. The galaxy is a furnace of destruction, and I alone have the vision to save its treasures from the flames.
