Ironstrider Ballistarius
Bipedal Hunter of the Skitarii Cohorts
The Ironstrider Ballistarius is a fast-walking bipedal weapon platform fielded by the Skitarii Cohorts of the [[forge-worlds]], descended from the same ancient stilt-walker designs as the Sydonian Dragoon but configured for stand-off ranged engagement. A single Skitarii rider is fused to the platform's saddle through permanent MIU implants, the chassis' pair of articulated legs reading every shift of his cybernetic spine as steering input. Each Ballistarius is consecrated as a hunter-scribe of the Cult Mechanicus, the rider's targeting solutions logged into his cortex as votive offerings to the Omnissiah. The Ballistarius mounts either Twin Cognis Lascannons for anti-armour duty or Twin Cognis Autocannons for anti-infantry suppression, depending on cohort doctrine. Both weapon variants benefit from the platform's MIU-augmented stability cogitator, which compensates for stride-induced barrel sway and produces firing accuracy unmatched by any equivalent walker chassis. In coordinated squadrons of three, Ballistarii operate as fast-moving fire-support packs, their riders' linked dataloom achieving a pack-mind cognition the [[astra-militarum]] derisively call 'spider-cohort thinking' — though those who have faced them rarely deride them long.

Tactical Role
Ballistarii operate as fast-moving fire-support, repositioning constantly across the battlefield to bring their cognis weaponry to bear on the most threatening enemies. Their high stride speed lets them outpace most return fire, while their pack-mind dataloom converges three barrels on any single target with terrifying efficiency.
